About Your Morgan Hill, CA, Photographer

Mayra was born and raised in San Jose, California. A first-generation US citizen, her mother came here at a young age to live the American dream. Mayra's life took a major turn when she got pregnant at 16 and had her first daughter while in high school. She fought to graduate and receive a diploma, in spite of resistance from school administrators who didn't want other kids to see her as a teen mother.

At age 21, Mayra found herself a single mother, raising two kids, renting an apartment in Gilroy for affordability, and commuting to a job at a social service nonprofit in San Jose. She would skip meals herself to make sure the kids were fed. Grit and sacrifice defined Mayra's early life, but today, Mayra is married with five children in total and is grateful to be a professional photographer.

Mayra loves photography and specializes in newborn photo shoots to help families memorialize that special time. She has taken numerous photo-positioning and editing courses and graduated from the Newborn Posing Workshop by renowned photographer Captured by Claudia. She designed and built a dedicated in-home studio. In 2018, Mayra won the County of Santa Clara Office of Women's Policy Phenomenal Woman Award.

"I can’t easily express in words just how amazing our experience was with Mayra from MBPhotography. I reached out to her last minute to book a newborn shoot as a gift for my brother. His baby girl was born three and a half weeks early and they simply weren’t ready. But I knew they’d want this moment captured. It’s a big deal, trying to pick someone to work with something so precious. It’s nerve wracking. But I got lucky, so very lucky. From the first phone call with Mayra, she made me feel at ease, answering my thousands of questions and working diligently to make sure we created exactly what we dreamed of in our heads. Actually, it was better than what I’d hoped. Because on top of having all the set ups we asked for, including an intricate carriage Cinderella would have marveled at, she also added her own special touch to the shots. Like a mini mermaid doll for a mermaid costume I mentioned I was going to bring. That thoughtfulness and planning made all the difference. Also, we had an extremely difficult toddler who had zero interest in getting his picture taken. But family shots were important to us. We wanted to make sure we captured brother and sister together. So Mayra spent all day trying. Not once did she get upset when our toddler refused to pose. She smiled and said, “we’ll figure it out.” And she did. She filled a bucket with treats and then surprised him. You should have seen how his face completely lit up. Then she did a separate shot of the baby in that bucket and, through very difficult editing I’m sure, magically created the perfect photo. There’s not a single shot Mayra took that I wouldn’t proudly hang and compare to any other image I’ve seen captured by other photographers. She goes the extra mile. And her prices were significantly more reasonable than some of the other studios in our area. So if you are looking for a photographer you can trust, look no further. I can guarantee you won’t regret it. Like us, you may walk away with not only beautiful photos you’ll hold close forever, but also a treasured friendship you never saw coming."
