The True Gift of Christmas

This past Holiday season, this beautiful little girl and her mama walked into my studio hoping for Santa photos.

Santa had already finished for the day. He was in the middle of changing out of his suit when a family walked in just minutes after we had officially wrapped. Without hesitation, Santa put his gear back on so we could take care of them. And not long after, this sweet girl arrived with her mom, softly asking if Santa was still available.

There was no world in which we were going to say no. Santa stayed late once more, making space for two additional families — with this little girl being the very last.

Her smile filled the room the moment she sat with Santa. And as we watched, her mom stood nearby, overwhelmed with emotion. It was the kind of look you never forget — a mix of fierce love and quiet heartbreak, carrying the weight of everything her baby girl has already endured in such a short life. No child should ever have to face what she has faced. Children shouldn’t ever have to face battles as big as cancer.

Her mom mentioned that she had hoped to come back for my micro minis the following day. Between hospital visits and life being turned upside down, she simply hadn’t had the time to schedule anything this year. I told her to come back tomorrow — that the session would be a gift from me.

I believe deeply that when you’re given a gift, you’re meant to use it to serve and bless others. The holidays aren’t just about decorations and traditions — they’re about giving, about kindness, and about showing up when it matters most. Whether it’s toy drives, food drives, or moments like this, this is the heart of the season.

It wasn’t an accident that these families walked in at the very end of the day. It felt like a gentle reminder that everything happens for a reason. Being able to give them something that comes so naturally to me may mean more to them than I’ll ever fully understand.
